Personal Statement
I was thirteen years old when I started playing indoor volleyball in my freshman year of high school (2013), playing middle blocker. I was named most improved player at the end of the season. That same year was also my first year playing club volleyball, as a middle blocker as well, on the 15s team.
In 2014, during the pre-season of my first varsity year, I switched position to Opposite, where I continuously work on improving my form and knowledge of my position and indoor volleyball. Now entering my third year, and also named most improved player at the end of last year’s varsity season, I have learned a lot, and look forward to learning a lot more.
Here are a few things about me that I would like you to know:
- I’m very passionate about volleyball (including beach);
- I love the competitive team spirit and experience, and sometimes have been a bit hoarse after a game or tournament – I like playing my role to keep my team focused and 100%;
- Thanks to my parents, for their guidance and insistence, I always try to conduct myself responsibly, on and off the court;
- In my freshman year at high school, my parents gave me the support, and help set my academic expectations. Today, I am proud that I have been able to balance both my academics and athletics, maintaining a strong GPA, while also improving my athletic skill level;
- I’m very competitive, and can be really hard on myself. I am working on making that work more to my advantage. I like that I am competitive, as I play every game 100%, and attend every practice (unless I have an appointment or out of town), always pushing harder to get better.
This past high school season, my team and I accomplished winning the Florida State Champion title for class 4A. Winning States was an amazing reward to the hard work and dedication my team and I put forth. Our teamwork showed throughout the season, from being down 2 games against Pine Crest and coming back to win the next three games in our regional semifinals, and then going on to beat Trinity Catholic in five in State finals. This experience has given me more drive and has shown me what can be accomplished with effort and determination. No one believed we would win, except my team and our parents. To prove them wrong was a rewarding feeling and I was proud to bring home the trophy for my school. We won with honor and pride.
I am looking forward to my college experience, and wherever I end up going, I want to be able to say that I gave it my all.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Jade Jeffrey
