Ramya Welch '18 Recruiting Profile

My name is Ramya Welch and I am a dynamic,  6 rotation player.  I am 5'9" and an Outside Hitter of class of 2018. I am an uncommitted recruit seeking to tryout and or become a preferred walk on. Currently, I attend Florida International University in Miami, Florida where I continue to train and work on my skills.  Also, I assisted my club team by serving as a volleyball/hitting coach to the 15U team. 

I started playing volleyball at the age of 7 at our local YMCA. I learned the foundation of volleyball and fell in love with volleyball.  When I was younger, my mom used to practice with me outside until night fall.

What makes me different from other recruits is that I am a student of the game and constantly look to improve. I know you're saying, "everyone would say that." What makes me different is that I study players, techniques, how coaches and players interact.

I am a student of the game, but I am a bigger student in the classroom. My mom always encourage me to believe hard work pays off as long as you remain dedicated and trust your skills - in the classroom and while playing volleyball. My mother and family are my biggest supporters.  My family is all about education and sports. My mom played basketball in high school. My aunt played volleyball in high school. My grandpa played college football at the University of Miami and in the NFL  with Atlanta Falcons. My family is very important to me and while playing volleyball, my teammates have become my extended family. We support each other on and off the court.
