Personal Statement
Why I play…
I play volleyball for many reasons. I fell in love with the idea of playing the sport after watching Kerri Walsh-Jennings and Misty May-Treanor compete in the 2008 Olympics. Today I to play because of the camaraderie my volleyball community provides me. I play because I enjoy the leadership opportunities playing a team sport offers. I play because I love the feeling I get after completing a tough technique-oriented practice. I find it gratifying to work hard, improve, and reap immediate results on the court. I particularly love to play defense. I think it definitely requires a certain mentality. A good defender must be resilient and tenacious. And finally, I play volleyball because it requires that I be in the moment. In the middle of a close match or an intense practice, I am able to escape all of the stresses of the outside world. It is very freeing. All in all, volleyball has become my passion. I constantly look forward to seeing my teammates and competing as often as possible.
My 16's Tsunami club team won the SRVA Championship, capturing a National level bid. I have started on my high school's varsity volleyball team since my freshman year. I presently hold my high school's records for most digs in a match, most digs in a season, and I have already broken the record for career digs. I have received the honor of being named to the All Area, All State and All County Teams for the past three seasons by the Georgia Volleyball Coaches Association.
