Eyes wide, the little girl watches as the girls dominate on the court. In awe, she tugs on her mom’s sleeve, “I want to be like them one day.” After the game was over, the little girl walked up to the player’s bench and said to them “I am going to be like you all one day.” One of the girls stood up and crouched down in front of the girl so that they were eye level, “You can be anything you want to be.” she said.
This is how my journey started and I want to do the same for another little girl or boy. My volleyball journey began in 7th grade and when I first stepped on the court and started playing, I never wanted to stop. I fell in love with the game.
I have always been a hustler on the court despite my size. I would consider myself a leader on and off the court and would also consider myself a very well-rounded player in the way that I have played almost every position on the court with the exception of libero. However, I do not think that I would prosper as a defensive specialist at the collegiate level. I have spent many summers attending volleyball training camps and as a result of this, I have a consistent float serve. I have played club for two years as a middle hitter and one year as an opposite/outside hitter. Recently, my family and I moved to the Big Island of Hawai'i so I now go to school at Hawai’i Preparatory Academy (HPA). Since I only moved this year, I have played one year in the middle and outside position at HPA. Before I moved, I was a middle and setter for 4 years at my high school, Patrick Henry Academy in the low country of South Carolina. I am constantly striving for excellence in my home, at school, and on the court.
I want to attend a college where they can push me to be my best in the classroom, and if God willing, on the court as well. I hope that I will bring pride to my family and friends knowing that I did my best. I’m doing this for the little girl in the stands that was me 8 years ago.NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the exclusive athletic recruiting network that educates, assists, and connects, families, coaches and companies so they can save time and money, get ahead and give back.
