Personal Statement
Aloha! My name is Lauren Yap and I am a 5'5" junior at Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is my eighth season of playing competitive club volleyball on a local and national level. I have played OPP since I am left handed and L/DS, and I love playing both positions!
At school, I’m a member of the marching band, concert band, flute ensemble, Key Club, and National Junior Honor Society. My teachers would describe me as a motivated, focused, hard worker who gets along well with everyone. On the court, I am disciplined, quick, and versatile, as I have stepped in to play middle blocker and setter when my team needed me to.
I love challenges, because they help me to grow. At Punahou, I currently have a 3.97 unweighted GPA with two honors classes and an AP class. This season, I'm excited to play for Spike and Serve (SASVBC) 17's. Last season, I had a great time competing with my club team SASVBC 16's! We placed 5th at the Lone Star Classic 16 American and 2nd at the GJNC 16 Patriot, and even better, we worked hard and had fun as a team.
My goal is to play volleyball at a college where student-athletes can pursue excellence in both academics and athletics, actively participate in the campus community, and make lifelong friendships. In addition to Hawaii, I’ve also lived in Wisconsin and Oregon, so I’m open to all geographical areas. Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to seeing if I could be a good fit for your program.
