Personal Statement
Aloha, my name is Iwa (pronounced Eva) and I developed a love for volleyball my Freshman year in high school. Prior to high school I only dabbled in sports. Summer before Freshman year my twin sister and I tried out for the Pearl City H.S. girls volleyball team and did not make the team. My determination began at that moment, I became a student of the game and fell in love with it! I turned to the aid of my father, who helped prepare me everyday, in our backyard and at public courts, for Fall tryouts. My freshman year, to the surprise of all the coaches, I made it on the developmental team. Sophomore year made it on the JV team and had a great season helping our team get to playoffs. As a Junior, once again I surprised the coaches and made it in the starting line up on the Varsity team, which made it to playoffs as well. This year, not only was I in the starting line up but chosen as a Team Captain and I am honored to have helped my team once again reach playoffs. Volleyball has taught me the value of hard work and determination, the importance of teamwork and respect, and the pride that comes from being prepared when opportunity arises. I look forward to more opportunities to be a part of a strong team not only on the court but in my future career as a medical professional as well. Being a Student Athlete is difficult but I was able to maintain a cumulative GPA over 3.0 the entire four years of high school and I am determined to maintain a high level of performance on the court and in the class throughout college! Thank you for taking the time to view my profile, I look forward to hearing from you.
