I will be a great addition for your team because I am a dedicated athlete on the court and in the classroom who strives for greatness. I will run through walls and brake down many barriers for my teammates to succeed. I will put forth my best effort on and off the court for my teammates, the program and the university. I wake up every morning with the goal of inspiring others and setting standards that no one else has. I am a student athlete who is never satisfied! Being satisfied with “average” is not the way that I want to live my life. Every single day I breathe, love, and have a passion for this great game of volleyball

I have made multiple sacrifices for this sport, to become the athlete I am today. I have missed family events, weddings, birthdays, mission trips, and Friday/Saturday nights with my friends, but I would not want it any other way. I know that in the end I am sacrificing all this for the sport that I love. I am willing to make these sacrifices to reach my highest potential and achieve the ultimate of playing volleyball in college and winning a national championship with my teammates. To accomplish this, I refuse to miss out on the extra reps in the gym, time in the weight room, or film sessions that will help my team win. I am also very grateful for my parents who sacrifice their weekends and vacation time to come watch me play all over the Midwest and who takes time out of their full time jobs to drive me to practice because they know how much volleyball means to me. I have chosen to make these sacrifices because at the end of the day I wouldn't want it any other way.

I am constantly putting my teammates, family, and friends needs in front of mine to help them reach their maximum potential. My faith is what motivates me to perform to my highest potential, knowing I'm playing for God. I'm always making sure that my teammates are sticking to their goals that they have set. I made it a priority of mine to be able to help my teammates by going through their goals with them and realized some of them wanted a stronger faith and go to church every Sunday. After hearing this, it became my goal to make sure I helped my teammates reach their goal. Soon after going over our goals, I invited them to church with me that Sunday and we all loved each other’s company, even my coach said he would come join us next time. Attending to others needs and aspersions in life has always been a passion of mine. I just hope that I can influence them in a positive way just like they have done for me.

This club season has been the most adversity I have faced in my young life. I started my club season coming off of a high school season where I started on varsity as only a sophomore. I had a lot of high expectations to live up too. I didn't have the best season, so my confidence was down, but I knew club season was a new fresh start for me. I had the determination to exceed the expectation that were set for me by others, and not let them down. I started my club season off on SPVB 16 Blue (Sports Performance 4th team), I loved my teammates, but it was definitely a slower tempo then I was used to. I had the opportunity about a month later to play with SPVB 16 White (Sports Performance 3rd team), they were a faster paced team that was full of hard working and dedicated girls. Soon after I was on their team, I started wanting to do more to get stronger, so I asked my head coach if I could lift with the 18's age group who has an extremely hard lifting program on my day off. Of course he loved the fact that I started going in extra lifting. A goal of mine is to touch 10 feet by the end of my season, and I knew the only way I could achieve that goal was by putting in more than the standard set. I was constantly in the weight room with the older girls on Monday nights and soon after my hard work was being recognized. When they needed me to fill a spot for an injured girl on SPVB 16 Red (Sports Performance 2nd team) I was up to the challenge. By this time I was working with my 5th setter in a short 2 month time span. I used this to my advantage and started learning new tempos and techniques from the setters and other middles I got the opportunity to work with. I played with that team for a very short time and then I got a call from my head coach Dan telling me I was playing up with our top team, SPVB 16 Elite. I was overwhelmed with excitement knowing that all my hard work was finally paying off. Elite has taught me how to be an extraordinary teammate as well as a leader. I have the opportunity to work with a highly skilled setter who welcomed me with open arms. I thank God every day for providing me with the opportunity to play with all the teams I have been able to play with. This experience has taught me how to be a stronger leader and I have met so many new friends, who are now part of my family. My coach is always reminding me to never take anything for granted and exceed in all of the opportunities that come my way.

Another goal that has been a constant battle with me is learning how to be a leader on and off the court. I recently received the prestigious honor of being selected as one of the top 7 female athletes in the sophomore class at Metea Valley High School, to be part of J. Kyle Braid. This national organization is to train athletes physically, mentally, and emotionally through interactive leadership training experiences on how to become an excellent lifetime leader. This brought me so much excitement that I would have the opportunity to be part of JKB. I had to go through an application process, find teachers/coaches to write recommendation letters, and to be interview by an eight person panel. I am one of the top two female athletes to be chosen to be a part of this organization. I am so blessed to achieve this honor to learn more about how to be a stronger leader on the court, in my school, and in the community. We are going on a leadership conference on July 10-16 to learn more about being a leader. This will further lead me to accomplishing my goal of being an outstanding leader, and someone who my team can rely on to always be an influence and motivator in their life.

I will be a great addition to your team because of the leadership experience I will provide, the importance of family, the significance of my teammates, and my faith that had driven me to become the athlete I am today. I hope I have a strong impact on your consideration for your team.
Sincerely,
Kailee Bass
