Personal Statement

Volleyball is a game of mistakes. Things are going to happen, but you can’t back down when the game’s on the line because you’re nervous. That’s when you have to focus and do what you do best.

Erin Erb - Quoted in the Elgin Courier News, September 23, 2014

11/08/2015

My name is Erin Erb.  I will be graduating in 2016.  I just finished my Senior season and fourth year on the Varsity volleyball team at Huntley High School.

I have been playing volleyball since I was nine and have loved it ever since.  I have so much passion and heart for the game.  I HATE LOSING MORE THAN I LOVE TO WIN.  I also love high intensity situations.  For example, when it is game point and I’m serving, I know I can serve a ball aggressive and in.  I love the adrenaline rush and don’t play it easy.  I just keep swinging.

During my high school career, I have been a varsity starter for four (4) years and will be a four year lettermen.  On June 27, 2015, the Northwest Herald sports editor Jon Styf wrote, "...I’ll take Huntley’s Erin Erb as my early player of the year favorite ...".    On August 21, 2015 Northwest Herald writer Mike Defabo, pick me as "High school girls volleyball: 5 to watch".  He wrote, ".... The 6-foot outside hitter led the Red Raiders to a regional championship.  This year, she'll need to not only continue her production but also step up as a vocal leader to the Red Raiders' to the four freshmen on the team."

High School Season 2015;

Hitting; Att-542, Kills-299, H% - .395, Serving-.910, Aces - 52, Total Blocks - 64, Passing % - .885 and Digs - 52

I have just been selected to the 18's team for Balance Volleyball Club.  Balance Volleyball follows more of the NCAA schedule.  Most Clubs are starting three, 2+ hour, practices a week in early December.  Balance does one position training practice per week, one hour and a half hours each.  We are required to maintain a conditioning schedule and weight lifting on our own.  I have a weight lifting class, at my high school, as my gym class.  I am also training with a personal trainer at Going Vertical three times a week, for an hour each session.  At Going Vertical I work on speed and agility, core strengthening and increasing my vertical.  We will play in two matches and one tournament prior to starting the full three per week practices start in mid February.

I have played  on a Black level team for the past five club seasons at Sky High Volleyball Club.  I have been a six position player for the last three years of club volleyball.  This season, I was moved up from the 17's levels to play on the 18s Red team.  We had nine players on the 18s Red team when I was moved up.  By March we were down to six healthy players and one player out for six weeks with a broken finger.  So, on March 25, 2015, Sky High made the decision to move all of our players to other teams.  I was moved to 17s Black and finished the last half of the season with them.

Club - 2014-15; Sky High 18 Red(Until 3/25/15); Six Rotation Player, Team Captain

Club - 2014-15; Sky High 17 Black (As of 3/25/15)

Club season; Hitting % - .381, Serving - .900, Aces - 71, Total Blocks - 127, Passing % - .842 and Digs - 317

(These are the combined statistics from 18's Red and 17's Black)

I always put 100 percent into anything I do.  No matter what.  You really do have to push yourself to be the best. I always will remember what my coach always says, “You get out of it whatever your put into it”.  “NEVER GIVE UP”

I would like to pursue a major in health sciences in college.   I am looking into sports medicine as a possible career.

I have been involved in Link Crew.  It is a mentoring program connecting freshmen upper classmen.  I love helping the freshman get more comfortable with our school.  I also have been recommended for the student athlete leadership team (S.A.L.T) for the past three years.  I volunteer to help coach elementary and middle school kids at my schools volleyball summer camp.  It is always a lot of fun.  Especially to see the kids grow and get better every year.

I am looking for a college "Home".  Someplace to be part of a family, not just a volleyball team.

  • 2015 Sky High Volleyball (18 Red (Begining of the Season until 3/25/15))
  • These Statistics are from the beginning of the 2014-15 season until 3-25-15. 18 Red was dissolved and I was moved to 17 Black
  • 2015 Sky High Volleyball Club (17 Black (As of 3/25/15) Stats from Windy City, Norther Lights & AAUs)
  • These statistics are only from; Windy City Qualifier, Northern Lights Qualifier & AAU's. On March 25, 2015 Sky High Volleyball Club decided to dissolve the 18 Red team that I was on and move all of the players to other 17 and 18 teams. This decision was because of the loss of players on all of the 17 and 18 teams. Our 18 Red was down to six available players and one injured player. The other 18 team and the three 17's team were also below their ten player target rosters. So to our players were move to strengthen the remaining 18's team and the three 17's teams.
