Going to a new school where I knew no one and earning a starting spot on varsity volleyball as a freshman was intimidating at first. Not having a connection with the girls initially when I started was rough, but going through with being the new one on the team was worth it. From then on, I knew I had to step it up to make up for being timid at first and that has led me to become a leader 3 years later. Nearing my 8th year playing volleyball, I have learned so many valuable lessons, not only that involve volleyball but with life also.
I've always had a passion for volleyball, but the moment where I realized that volleyball was more than just a sport to me happened later in my volleyball career. My sophomore year, I ended up tearing my Labrum in my shoulder and had to sit out my 16s club season. Not being able to play the sport I love for 6 months was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I realized that when I was playing, I would take it for granted and now that's the last thing I do with anything in my life. Although I wasn't able to play, it pushed me harder to become an even better volleyball player. I knew that I had a lot of time to make up for so as soon as I was cleared to do anything, I started training with my trainer, Marcus Robinson in order to mentally and physically prepare myself for my next high school season.
Although being injured wasn't something I wanted to happen, I know that part of the reason I push myself as hard as I do is because I know the feeling of losing something that I love, even if it was just for a short 6 months. You never know the extent of how important something is in your life until you have the feeling of losing it. My goal is to play volleyball at a collegiate level because I honestly cannot imagine my life without playing volleyball at a competitive level and I know that I have so a lot to offer on and off the court.
