Personal Statement
I am Malya Sayre and I fell in love with the game of volleyball around 5 years ago. From there my athletic career only progressed and I improved so much from where I started. My freshman year I started on the Varsity High School team as a middle, and led my team in most kills, top hitting percentage, and most blocks. By the end of the year I was awarded two All Tournament Awards, an All-Conference Award, and an All-Area Award. My sophomore year I finished the season by winning all the same awards but as an outside hitter. I have always been a very versatile player and have continued to do that in my club season this year by playing all positions front row and while on the outside I play front row and back row. One of my personal goals is to be an All-State player and also be the first person in my area to be awarded the “All-Area” Award for all four years of high school.
From those moments on, I feel like my life has changed for the better in every way possible. Growing up I was always a competitive, hard working, leader and those qualities have only grown as I have gotten older. Volleyball allowed me to use my athletic abilities and height in ways I couldn’t even imagine and I am so grateful for the impact that volleyball has made on my life. In the years playing, I have learned that not only is volleyball a physical game, but equally as much of a mental game. Once you allow yourself to have a great mentality you are only setting yourself up to grow and succeed in whatever ways you want to make possible. I am beyond excited to see where my athletic and academic ability takes me in the next few years and I know I have what it takes to be a great impact on your team!
