Personal Statement
Hi! My name is Addison Swinger and I am an upcoming sophomore at Campus High School. The cheer and dance world were all I knew up until second grade when I decided I wanted to pick up something different. I attended the Campus volleyball camp just to try it out and ended up falling in love with the sport! Following many camps, YMCA advanced leagues, and making the team in middle school, volleyball had brought me to the competitive world of club. My biggest supporters and influences through these years have been my parents, my college graduate sister, the Lord, and my grandma who needed me to push harder for her through her breast cancer battle. Through volleyball, I have learned a lot about the kind of player I am and strive to become. I've learned to humble myself and realize this is a team sport, that I am my biggest critic, I'm very competitive, and I am always wanting feedback to improve. School has always come very easy and been enjoyable for me! During my high school career I want to take honors/college classes to challenge myself, graduate with the highest GPA possible for me, and finish as a Kansas Honor Scholar. For college, I hope to major in Sport Medicine and minor in Sports Science. In my classes I want to have a personal connection with my professors to figure out what will work best for me being a student-athlete. Finally, I want to earn my Bachelors and Master degrees, graduating with honors, and possibly go to Medical School. Being as short as I am, I feel like I've had to work a little harder for my spot. Which is difficult being in the volleyball world. This past high school season, I made junior varsity as a freshman and I was playing with a mix of girls that little to no experience. It was really hard to keep my head up and be positive. But through the season it humbled me and allowed me the opportunity to become a leader. I have been a team captain which has taught me to be determined, strong-willed, intelligent, positive, and encouraging. Hopefully I can be an energetic, goofy, hard-working girl to add to your future roster!
