Personal Statement
Volleyball was first brought into my life when I was 11 years old in the 6th grade. My step-mom coached volleyball at the collegiate level and would come home and teach me the basics with a beach ball. In Natchitoches, a parks and recreation league was established when I was in the 7th grade. This is when I knew I wanted to pursue volleyball. I finally found what I loved to do. I continued to play with my friends and practice with my step-mom going into my 8th grade year. We were able to play on a club team in Shreveport, LA called Rocketfuel. After 8th grade, I tried out for the high school team and made it. My Freshman year, I started on the varsity team (a 5A school) and went on to receive the district/conference Freshman MVP award as wall as being honored as 1st team all district/conference. My Sophomore year, I continued to start on the varsity team and again was selected as 1st team all district/conference and additionally as 2nd team all region. Following my Sophomore year, my teammates elected me as team captain for the upcoming year.
My parents were both collegiate athletes and both coached at that level. I understand that I must to work extremely hard to achieve the goals that I have set. I am vocal on the court, supportive towards my teammates, and passionate for the game. In the classroom, I have a 4.0 GPA, and I am enrolled in the majority of honors classes. I have exhibited strong self-discipline to ensure my grades remain strong and that volleyball skills are where I want and need them to be.
