Volleyball has been the first sport to keep me interested and the first sport my family and friends have seen me really care about. I started playing during a summer camp at my high school, sometime in between the sixth and seventh grade, where a few of my friends and I joined to try something new, and I have loved it since.
I take pride in my academics. I've always done well in school, this current school year, taking all honors classes and keeping straight A's. I like being academically challenged and how it builds my resilience. I have wanted to continue my studies in architecture for as long as I can remember.
I have learned a lot from volleyball, specifically overcoming adversity. Throughout my 5 years of playing volleyball I've faced my fair share of injuries like ankle sprains and finger mishaps but I've been able to bounce back from them and not let them discourage me. My hardest setback has definitely been the mental game. The skills I have developed like confidence on the court and communication skills have helped me in the sport and in my social life.
The life skills I have learned from volleyball have been able to help me in my other extracurricular activities like a service learning group called Intrepid Keystone Club where I have done community service projects like trash pick ups and caring for the less fortunate in my town.
I work tirelessly to better myself as a player and a teammate. I get touches in my house and in the backyard as much as I can and practice for fun outside of school and club season. From a teammate perspective, I love being able to tie ribbons in each other’s hair and having people who are always there to help you with something you're struggling with on or off the court. The built in friendships with playing volleyball has been something I’ve always treasured.
