I tend to have a quiet, laid-back disposition, but when I step onto the court, I am ready to go to work! In fact, recently, a coaching mentor described me as a “cool cucumber with killer instincts.” She trusted me enough to tell our setters to put the ball in my hands when the game got tight, and I am honored by her belief in me to get the job done. I have discovered through playing volleyball that when I am passionate about something, I won’t let anything stand in my way. There was a time when I was told I wasn’t capable of performing certain skills on the court, but I took that opposition and used it to fuel my determination. The result of that resolve helped me earn respect from my coach, and it changed our relationship.
Since I started playing volleyball 4 years ago, I have learned to refine my self-discipline. Success on the court doesn’t happen just by showing up at practice and matches. As a serious player, I have to be willing to get up at 0500 to drive across town, and train off the court in order to succeed on the court. This has become my latest addition to my training program. Furthermore, I attack my academics with the same enthusiasm. Anything less than my best effort is never enough. I am ready to go to work for your team with diligence, passion, and determination!
