Personal Statement

My name is Abby Krueger, I am a 6'2" outside hitter from the class of 2018.  I started playing volleyball when I was nine years old as well as many other sports, I quickly realized volleyball was what I loved most.  The more time I put into it, the more I get out of it.  I grew close to all my teammates and realized how much of a team player I am.  Last year I was voted Best Sportsmanship by my High School team.  I am a hard worker filled with energy and enthusiasm but I manage to stay level headed under pressure.  Last High School season as a Freshman on T.C. Roberson's Varsity team I had 262 serves with only 5 service errors.  I also stayed consistent with my hitting and digging for my first High School season.
In addition to working hard on the court, I am also working hard in the classroom.  I am taking honors classes and am keeping an A-B average.  I am really enjoying science, sports marketing, and art class.  Because of these interests I think pursuing Business or Marketing would give me a way to work with people and express my creativity and love of sports.  School also gives me an opportunity to join clubs and participate in events.  I am a part of the Art and Interact club where we did a food drive and sold T-shirts.  I also got to work with Special Olympics last Spring where I painted faces and ran races.  Faith is also a big part of who I am.  I go to mass weekly with my family and attend Young Life with my friends.  This keeps me grounded and gives me strength to face challenges.
Most of my past teams I have been a part of I have played six rotations and made an impact on the team.  I would love for this to happen on a college team too.  I realize the level of play rises in college but I am willing to do what it takes to earn the spot of an all rotation outside hitter.  I hope to play at a school with high academic standards and intense school spirit, where everyone is proud to wear their school colors.  Some of my favorite volleyball memories have come from playing for Team Carolina over the past two summers at the HP Championships.  It has been great to play with girls from across my state and to meet players from across the country.  I hope to gain many more great volleyball memories in college.
