Personal Statement
Hello Coaches! My name is Gabriella Imburgia. I am from Fair Lawn, New Jersey and I am a 2023 Outside/Opposite Hitter. I have been playing volleyball since the age of 10 and started playing club volleyball since I was in seventh grade. I fell in love with the sport ever since I went to one of my local high school volleyball games in fifth grade. I was in awe at the ball passing between player to player and I was certain that this was the sport for me.
To me, volleyball is both a mental and physical game. Having good technique and a diverse skill set is very important while playing. However, your mentality while playing must never falter and always uplift yourself and your teammates. One must always think positively and optimistically in order to succeed, win the game, and most importantly be there for your teammates when they need you most.
Being dedicated to something you love such as this sport is very important to me. I take the time to train outside of practices to become that much better. I dedicate myself to progressing and improving so my game performance goes that much better. I also think being dedicated to your teammates is also important because it establishes true care and trust between the two.
The sport of volleyball really helped me learn how to work towards a common goal and always finish what I started. I will work side by side with my teammates to win every point, communicating the whole time and making it know that I have their back. I also think that it’s very important to establish good relationships with not only your teammates but with your coaches as well.
Volleyball is the sport that gave me a new passion to devote myself to and to love. There is not a moment when playing that I feel that volleyball hasn’t helped me relieve stress and become the person I am today.
