Personal Statement
My name is Hailey Fouché, and I am a Junior at Montclair Kimberley Academy (MKA), in Montclair, NJ. I have always been a strong student, viewing the classroom as a place where I am intellectually curious, work hard and excel. I also believe it is important to balance my academics with another activity, and for me that is volleyball. I am a six-rotation outside hitter (OH).
During my freshman year, I started varsity as an OH. I was named Rookie of the Year on my team, named 2nd team All-Super Essex Conference, named top 80 underclassmen in the state of New Jersey, and Top Freshmen in NJ. Sophomore year was challenging due to COVID however I was named 1st team all-conference, Top Sophmoro in NJ, 3rd team all Group, and I helped to lead my team to be State Finalist. For Junior year I was named team captain, I played as an OH. I was named, All Confrence, All Non-public which is my group, and All State. We had a succesful season and won our confrence, we were semi fianalist in both the prep tournament and in the Country Tournament, and were quaterfianlist in the State tournament.
I have played several sports growing up, including softball and basketball, and have been on summer swim teams, and ski on family vacations. I have played club volleyball for 4 years. In my first year, I played up a year on CJVA 14 National as a middle. The following year I switched to Team VB Rags-14 Carly where I played as an OH for Coach Carly Rivera, the director of VB Rags. We placed second at GEVA Regional Finals, and we played at the Open level at USAV Nationals. My 3rd club season, I played up 2 years and started on Team VB Rags-17 Carly as a Opposite. We placed 1st at Miami Beach Volleyfest and because of COVID-19 we ended our season 2nd in GEVA, qualifying for Nationals. Because of COVID I decided to play beach volleyball that summer and participated in the 16U and 18U divisions. In my 4th club season I played under Carly on his 16-1 team, and I was the captain. This year I will captain a 17 National team under Carly and also preform as a captain and compete in some 18's tournaments.
As a player, I am competitive and driven and as a person I am empathetic, aiming to help others in any way I can. I am passionate about volleyball and my academics. I like to hold myself to high academic standards, I take a mix of regular and honors courses striving to push myself outside of my comfort zone. I am a school ambassador as well as a member of the student athletic council and participate in a few clubs. Outside of school and sports, I have a love for photography, nature, and travel. During my travels, I've done community service, visited and assisted local schools, hiked, biked, and surfed. I've traveled to many different places such as Spain, South Africa, Canada, Singapore, Mexico, Dubai, Jamaica, Indonesia, Puerto Rico, and various Caribbean islands.
It is my dream to play volleyball at the collegiate level, at a school that both suits me but also challenges me academically.
