Ashley Gundling '16 Recruiting Profile

I have grown up loving sports. I first started with gymnastics, which I competed in for 11 years.  During my gymnastics training, I became very focused on excelling in my sport, competing nationally. I trained very hard, working 20+ hours each week.  My coaches loved the drive and attention to detail that I brought to gymnastics.  When I had the chance to play volleyball for the first time in grade school, I realized that I had a love for a second sport.  Entering freshman year in high school, when I was told I made the varsity volleyball team, I had to make a choice between gymnastics and volleyball.  I chose volleyball and I know it was the right decision for me.

Volleyball has been an important part of my life for the past seven years.  Each year, I continue to have a deeper understanding of the game of volleyball as my physical and mental skills develop.  I have been the libero on my high school varsity team for the past 3 years, and have grown in my ability to read the other team’s offense, which has helped my team to have a strong defense.

After my high school season ends, my club season begins, and lasts just about until the high school season begins again.  I love having the opportunity to play volleyball 12 months of the year!  My goal for the past few years has been to play at the collegiate level.  I spend a great deal of time studying the game, as well as working hard to develop my skills.  I have a strong serve, as well as a tough defense.  My ability to read the play, and move quickly around the court, has helped me to be a strong asset to my team.  I know I will make a positive contribution to a college team!
