Personal Statement
My name is Camila Davila, I came to the United States in 2011 and I have been determined to excell in academics and athletics. Since I was a child I have had a passion for sports, however volleyball is much bigger than a passion. Playing volleyball has taught me how to be mentally and physically strong, it has taught me to be a better leader, and to be a better person and teammate. I look at volleyball as a game of inches, one inch in or one inch out can mean winning or losing which is why I don't let any ball hit the floor easily. Whenever I step on the court and I look at the people in the court with me, I feel like I'm home and I feel that I can be myself, I feel like family. I am a very stubborn athlete as I am a person, and I refuse to lose without giving a fight. Indeed, I believe that one has to play with heart and leave everything out in the court, play as if it was the last game giving all of you and never giving up. "The best that I can", is what my father has taught me my whole life and it is something I always follow, because I always give 110 percent. I take academics and athletics very seriously because that is what my life has become, detemination to succeed. One never stops learning even when everything else deteriorates, education and intelligence always stays within you. Going to college and having the opportunity to play volleyball means that I can not only grow intellectually but also I will be able to play the sport that I love.
