My name is Laney Polk and I am a Junior at Manzano High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have played competitive club volleyball for four years at Albuquerque Rebels Volleyball Club. My first year I played on a locally-competitive team, and the next two years I played on a regional traveling team. This past club season, I played on a national traveling team. I have played in tournaments throughout the southwest, most notably Colorado Crossroads in Denver, CO; Lonestar Classic in Dallas, TX; AAU West Coast National Championships in Las Vegas, NV, and the SURVA regional championships in Albuquerque, NM. My experience as a Libero for three years of club volleyball proved very helpful when I had the opportunity to set for C-team my freshman year of high school. Playing both setter and Libero has given me the opportunity to develop a keen sense of court-awareness with both offense and defense in mind. This enabled me to be a utility floater for JV, playing defensive specialist, right side hitter, and middle blocker at various times that same year. My sophomore school season went very well, as I made Varsity as a Defensive Specialist/Libero.
I played on a national team this club season for ARVC. I played Defensive Specialist, but was on reserve as Libero and Opposite. I enjoy being a utility player, providing my coaches with options having me on the roster.
This school season, I have stepped into the position of all-around Outside Hitter. My adjustment to this position has been made possible through private coaching sessions and increasing my vertical throughout the summer.
In school, as on the court, I strive to excel. Freshman year, I achieved a steady 4.075 GPA while balancing year-round volleyball with an advanced course load. My current GPA is 4.15 I am a member of National Honor Society as well as MESA (Math, Engineering & Science Achievement) this school year. Additionally, I was voted into the secretary position for Spanish Honor Society. I am particularly interested in the health sciences.
I have a strong passion for volleyball and am willing to work hard to play beyond the high school level. I have a cousin who plays volleyball at the collegiate level, and am aware of the dedication required.
