My name is Miya Hugaboom, and I am a class of 2018 outside and opposite hitter from Burnt Hills, New York. I came to the sport of volleyball in seventh grade after being a competitive gymnast for 9 years. Since then, I have fallen in love with the sport, both from a competitive and mental standpoint. I competed on the varsity level, starting my sophomore year in which we captured a state title and were later ranked 24th in the nation by Maxpreps Xcellent Top 25. As I have gained experience at a high level of play, I have come to understand the importance of contributing to my team as a whole. This reflects in my style of play in which I strive to be efficient in everything I do. This allows me to get effective touches, both while blocking a digging. In addition, I have learned to make shots as a hitter that allow me to be effective ,whether by getting a kill or getting the opposing team out of system, despite being somewhat undersized. I think this will allow me to contribute to any team.
In addition to my commitment to athletics, I am also a dedicated student. Participating in volleyball and softball on the varsity level has only pushed me to excel in the classroom. I have maintained a 4.00 unweighted GPA while partaking in almost exclusively advanced classes, whether honors or AP. In my first two years of highschool, I have received multiple awards as a member of the top 5 on my class. As my academic career progresses, I am looking for a college that will push me to be my best both in and out of the classroom.
Outside of school and athletics, I play violin, am a member of math, world language and science honor society, FBLA, International Club, and Interact (a community service club).
As far my academic future goes, I would like to find an academically selective and competitive college. I plan on pursuing a pre-med path, so it is important to me to find college that affords me this option.
Thank you for considering me as a possible future member of your team!
