I am interested in participating in a college volleyball program that allows me to continue playing at a competitive level. I enjoy the structure of playing during the school year and work hard at achieving good grades while I play. I take a challenging course load so that I will be prepared for the collegiate academic experience. I enjoy being part of a team that works together to achieve a common goal. My leadership skills on and off the court help make my teams succeed. I take constructive criticism from my coaches and work to always improve my play. I believe in working hard to be the best person I can be.
My volleyball experience started in Middle school where I quickly got hooked on the sport. Until then I had been a basketball player and hadn't been exposed to volleyball. I participated in an entry level club experience to test out my dedication to the sport. By the end of the season I knew I wanted to commit more of myself to improve my skills. After moving on to VFX my skills improved and my dedication to being a better player and teammate were solidified. Fortunately my move to high school brought me into one of the strongest programs in NY state, Pittsford Sutherland. There I studied under a great JV coach who fine tuned my skills and exposed me to players at the highest caliber in the country. Although I didn't start on Varsity, I was learning and growing as a player. Picking up skills and role models from my Varsity teammates. In 2014 I was privileged to be part of the Varsity team as they competed in the State championship. When our starting setter got injured in pool play, I had the chance to play a role and help my team win a chance for the finals. I had an opportunity to experience one of the greatest moments in high school sports as my team went on to win a State Championship.
As a Senior, I had the chance to be the starting setter for my high school team. After graduating 7 starters from the previous year, the expectations were not high for our team. Thankfully I was able to use my experience on the court to help our young team build and achieve. We were able to finish co-league champions and went on to win our fifth consecutive Section V Class A title. Although we lost in the regional round, we demonstrated an ability to compete at a high level and succeed. Our team was selected for the Gary Adler Sportsmanship award as well as NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Team.
I am looking to find a college where I can continue to pursue academic excellence and find a place in the community through volleyball. Volleyball has taught me confidence and leadership and the importance of working with others to achieve success. I am self motivated and focused on making myself a complete scholar athlete.
