My goal and aspiration is to earn a college scholarship, pursue a degree in the field of health sciences, all while playing the sport I love most, volleyball. I have had the privilege of playing on both high school and club teams throughout my high school career. In reflecting on my experiences, I am very aware of how fortunate I have been to have had the great leadership of coaches dedicated to excellence both on and off of the volleyball court. I have learned the importance of integrity and that actions speak louder than words. I know that there can be no "I " in a successful team. I believe that the team must come first and that if I want to earn the respect of teammates I must put them before myself, and always consider what is best for the team.
I believe that I am an excellent candidate for your team because I am very self disciplined, respectful of my coaches and teammates, and am passionate about the game of volleyball. I am a very intense and focused player. I strive for excellence and will take the initiative to improve my areas of weakness because it is my responsibility to bring my very best to each practice or game for the benefit of the team. I love the feeling of elation after a great win, and treasure those moments, but also believe that there is a gift in adversity. I believe that when we are faced with challenges and controversy, instead of getting down or discouraged we must look at the situation as an opportunity, not an obstacle. I have learned that adversity can actually be the tool that drives us to overcome challenges and to compete at an even higher level.
In reflecting on what I believe sets me apart from other recruits there were several things that came to mind. One of the things that stands out most is the tremendous impact my parents made in teaching me the value of having good moral character. They continuously emphasized the importance of honesty, integrity, and respect for myself and others. They also taught me to be self reliant and that the choices I make today will impact my future. I know that If I have a goal to accomplish, the amount preparation and effort that I put in will be directly related to the outcome. Another very important characteristic I believe I can bring to a team is a outgoing personality, positive attitude and a sincere joy and enthusiasm when it comes to making friendships and creating bonds of trust and respect with others. I strongly believe that there is nothing better than having great team chemistry and supporting and cheering each other on like a family. When teams become like a family unit, and there is a genuine feeling of care and concern for one another, it gives team members a strength and a natural desire to work harder for the benefit of the team. I believe that the bonds of friendship and camaraderie can become the glue that keeps a team strong and united in the face of adversity.
