Personal Statement

Although it's somewhat common for students to switch schools, I feel I had a rather unique experience that has shaped my perspective on sports and academics. After spending 7 years at a small private school, I transferred my Sophomore year to my current school...moving from a class size of  25 to a High School with over 1,600 students.  Moving from a small close knit environment to a much larger one taught me important life lessons about moving out side of my comfort zone. This built my confidence when faced with tryouts at a school that had more female athletes trying out for my sport that female students total at my old school.

My love for the sport of volleyball started in second grade when I first started playing in camps at clubs. By fourth grade I was playing on both school and club teams...playing up in age groups during this time. Throughout this time I also played many other sports, but no other sport held my interest the way volleyball does. After five years of basketball...I found that I never looked forward to the games or practices the way did for volleyball, and so by High School I had dedicated myself fully to the sport of volleyball, playing both for my school teams, club teams, and playing sand pick ups games in the summer.

I have found that even though in an academic environment I am often reluctant to speak up and share my opinions, in volleyball I have the confidence to have my voice be heard and add my input to the team.

The challenges presented by the Covid pandemic and the associated school shutdowns, quarantines, and delays have only increased my resolve to finish my high school academic career strong. On top of managing my own ever changing school schedule, I've also been entrusted by my parents who are both in the health care field to help keep my grade school aged brother on track with his school work while we are both doing school work from home. Though I am not decided on the field I'm most interested in pursuing yet, I am interested most in biology coursework and intend to pursue that at the college level and will see where it will take me.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
