Personal Statement
In my 6 years of playing volleyball, I have learned to play more confidently and strategically. I have learned to both win and lose matches while still holding my head high. My experiences have enabled me to be a leader both on and off the court. As a leader on my teams, I have instilled the importance of being a teammate and good sportsmanship that results in a positive and energetic vibe that ultimately leads us to victory.
In my sophomore season I learned to face adversity and be a player from the bench due to an illness that caused me to miss most of my high school season. I had gotten my thyroid removed and because of the different factors and stages going into the recovery it was lead to believe that I wouldn't be back on the court playing for four months into my club season. Through it all, I was driven and refused to let the numbers define me. I recovered quickly and was back on the court six weeks after the surgery and ready to play in my first tournament. I came back from this obstacle completely healthy and ten times stronger, not only physically but mentally as well because I knew the court from a better point of view thanks to a coach of mine who took me under his wing and taught me additional ways to strategize and read the court differently.
My junior year of high school has been amazing as we went completely undefeated throughout the season, districts, and all the way up to the semifinals of states leaving us at a record of 24-1; all conference champs and two timing district champs. My high school team and I have achieved a lot this past season but we also learned a lot this season. I personally have learned a lot about myself through not only this season but in the sport entirely. I have learned that I am a good teammate and leader on and off the court by being complimented by the coaches of other teams, and not only the parents on my team but also on others. This sport has shaped me into the person I am today and it makes me proud to be on a team that I can call family.
