Personal Statement

I'm a junior this year.  My high school team lost in the quarter finals to Wando High School (Charleston, SC), who also went on to win the state championship.  I played right side on my high school team this past season.

I made the Magnum Mizuno 17's as my club team this year.  This is the top team in Club Magnum.  I know I will have to play middle until sometime in February because our middle is injured.  I'm anxious to see how this club season goes!  I've been busy making contact with college coaches and attending clinics and camps.  I'm hopeful of finding the "one" college; the one that I'll just know when I get to campus and when I meet the coach!

I love learning about the game.  I have been blessed to have awesome club coaches who have been amazing teachers of the game.  I've learned so much about mechanics, techniques, and strategy in just the last two years!  I try to put it to use on the court every time I go out there.

I make goals for myself.  I did all last club season and some this high school season.  I feel goal-making helps me focus on specific points of my game.  One of my consistent goals is blocking.  I'm learning more about technique and also understand how important a block is in the game!  For me, I get just as excited when my middle blocks the ball because I know I set that block, so we both are a part of the block!

I also work hard in the classroom.  One academic goal I have set for myself is to be a fluent Spanish speaker by graduation.  I hope to use this in my working with others in a clinical setting (I hope to be an art therapist).  I am a person who loves to learn about other cultures and always choose to surround myself with those of differing backgrounds/heritage.  I feel being inclusive is an asset to any team.  Cliques can easily destroy the dynamics of a capable team.

I truly want to play in college.  I love being a part of a team and the whole team experience.  I think I can be an asset to a team because of my desire to learn more about the game and work hard!

Thanks for taking the time to learn a little more about ME! :)

Training

  • EDGE Performance Training
  • 1 year
  • At the end of club season in July 2013, I started training with Todd Daughtry, owner of The EDGE. Todd was an awesome teacher/trainer. I learned so much from him! He left Columbia to relocate to his hometown in Virginia. I trained with him until April 2014. By the end of my work with Todd, I could box jump and clear a 30" box.

  • Junior Varsity Team
  • I have played basketball since I was 7 years old. First in rec leagues and then on my school JV team as a 7th and 8th grader. I gave up basketball after my 8th grade year to focus mainly on volleyball. It was very hard to do both school sports and star
