My name is Sarah Kay Cashion and I was born on June 9, 1997, in Columbia, S.C. Our family has lived in the midlands area of South Carolina all my life and we currently reside in Lugoff, S.C.
I love the game of volleyball. I began playing in 2006 at the developmental level after playing softball for a couple of years. In 2009, my 12-year-old Power team won Regionals and we went to Nationals for the first time. That was a great experience for me to see volleyball at that level.
I have played many positions through the years and actually spent the first three years of my career as a setter. I was a hitter for our 14-year-old team that won the Northeast Qualifier in 2011 and again qualified for Nationals. I have been on the Top Elite (or Mizuno) teams in my age group for the past five years. Last club season, I was chosen for the 16 Mizuno (top) team at Magnum Volleyball Club.
On my high school team at Lugoff-Elgin, I have started at middle in 2011 and 2012. I was named the team’s Offensive MVP both years. We have qualified for the playoffs in our region in each of my first two seasons. With high school and club volleyball, I play year-round to ensure that I continue to develop my game and I always strive to get better. In 2013, I was named a team captain as a junior and played many different positions on the team.
Last club season, I played on the top 17 year-old-team (17 Mizuno) at Magnum Volleyball Club in Columbia, S.C. I played primarily back row and some right side as I continued to work to get my right shoulder back to where it was prior to labrum surgery in March 2013.
In November 2014, I completed my senior season on the Lugoff-Elgin Volleyball team and played all 6 rotations. I was named to the All-Tournament team at the Carolina Forest Invitational and the White Knoll tournaments. Following the season, I was named to the All-Region IV-AAAA team and was also named my team's Most Valuable Player. Academically, I am taking 12 hours of college dual enrollment classes to give me a head start for next year and made the Dean's List for Central Carolina Technical College last semester.
For the 2015 club season, I am on the top 18 National team at SC Midlands Volleyball in Columbia, S.C. I am very excited and looking forward to this season!
My future plans are to attend college to play volleyball and obtain a degree in a career field of my choice.
