Loren Williams '13 Recruiting Profile

My childhood sport activities indirectly led to my career choice of becoming a medical doctor. I had an active childhood filled with playing youth sports, such as soccer, track, basketball, and volleyball. As with most organized sports, participants were examined by a medical doctor for clearance to participate in sports. In addition to receiving sport-related physicals, I visited the doctor's office for many sport-related injuries. During these visits to my pediatrician, I found myself fascinated with the healing of the human body, and knew that I wanted to be a physician. By deciding on a medical career at a young age, I experienced a lot of negative and discouraging feedback of pursuing such a challenging career. I was confronted with the amount of time spent in school and training to be a medical doctor, and the escalating costs of practicing medicine. I am, however, committed to being a physician and was never discouraged to change my career choice. As I matured and became more socially conscious of the world around me, my passion for helping and serving others has increased. In fact, I have discovered that compassion and concern for others are essential core values of a medical doctor. I am involved in many activities at school and church that involved community service and volunteering. I have the temperament to interact with everyone regardless of their socio-economic background, orientation, diversity, or ethnicity. My school extracurricular activities and sports have helped me to develop leadership skills. Because of my leadership abilities, I have excelled in a variety of school and non-school activities, such as Volleyball, Student Council, National Honor Society, and Girl Scouts. I have the personality to be a member of any team, and to encourage others to accomplish individual and team goals. I have developed a work ethic that will help me be successful in college and medical school. I believe that my academic preparation, life experiences, community service, and work experience have prepared me and will continue to do so as I move on to college, and meet new people and new challenges. Additionally, I have a strong desire to continue my volleyball career and compete in college. I am an impact player, and I have a high volleyball IQ. I am a defensive player that plays well in any position on the court. I have the drive to compete, with a positive attitude and I am coachable. I am an athletic volleyball player that can attack and terminate with aggressive swings. Most importantly, I am committed to providing the maximum athletic performance through proper rest, healthy nutrition, and staying athletically fit.
