Personal Statement
My name is Emma Joy and I am extremely excited about the prospect of playing volleyball in college. Outside of volleyball I participate in National Honor Society, Best Buddies, my high school Varsity choir, and church activities. I really enjoy my math and science classes in high school and am a member of the STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). I may want to continue my studies in science or math, but I am undecided on exactly what major I want to choose.
Since the 8th grade, I have devoted myself to the sport of volleyball and have participated in at least one college-sponsored volleyball camp each summer. In 2017, I will attend the First Contact camp at Texas State University, where I will continue to strengthen my defensive skills and grow in my knowledge of the game. On my high school team I play starting libero and I play defensive specIalist with my club team. My skills at serve/receive, passing and back row defensive play have steadily improved every season since devoting myself to the position. I may not be the best player on the court, but I'm coachable and I'll outwork the best of the best. The legendary coach Pat Summitt said it best,"Here's how I'm going to beat you. I'm going to outwork you. That's it. That's all there is to it."
