Personal Statement
My name is Kayla Thomas; please allow me to tell you a little about myself. I have been playing volleyball since 2nd grade. However, my passion for the sport developed when I started playing competitive club volleyball in the 5th grade. I would describe myself as a leader not only on the court but in all aspects of my life such as school, church, and community. Regarding school, education has always been and will continue to be one of utmost importance to me. This can be seen by being part of the Gifted and Talented program since grade 5 and my induction into the National Junior Honor Society.
As far as my leadership, I understand that leadership is not just only on the volleyball court. Leadership is part of your everyday life. It is being respectful toward teachers, coaches, peers, etc. It is my actions along with my words. As an example of my constant desire to develop further as a leader, I participate annually in Leadership Training for Christ. At this event, I participate in chorus, community service projects, web design and several other events.
I continue to have a very strong burning desire to be the very best and give more than 100% on the court. As a freshman, I was captain and led my team to an undefeated season from the middle position. My sophomore year, I made the varsity team as the starting outside hitter. I have just completed my junior season on varsity in which I led the team in kills for the season while transitioning to the opposite hitting position. I was also rewarded as a 1st Team & All Academic Team member by my district. In the spring semester, I will be inducted into the National Honor Society. With my current club team (SA Magic), I continue to play both positions (OH & RS) as needed per set for the success of my team. Being able to play both positions at a high competitive level shows my versatility and abilities as a player and student of the game.
