Making Varsity as a freshman with limited club experience made me mature as a volleyball player as well as a leader. I was constantly trying to prove that I belonged on the starting line up with my fellow teammates, and was determined to overcome my weaknesses to become an asset to my team. Freshmen to sophomore year our team lost some vital players, and as the only girl participating in Club I had to take the lead role in assisting my coach and my teammates. It was hardest when our team would be in a tight spot and it was my job to keep the team up, they all depended on me to play my best, every time I walked out onto the court. No matter how I felt, our team came first. Though we didn't make it to playoffs, I was able to make 1st team all area for my efforts. Volleyball has exposed and challenged me emotionally, academically, and physically to become a first rate student athlete. Throughout my experience with this sport I have been pushed to step out of my comfort zone to become the type of person I strive to be. Also, as a current top 20 student, academics are incredibly important to me, this has allowed me to apply that same effort and work ethic to any challenge I take on. My volleyball career is just beginning, and I would like to continue to be able to acquire more skills and knowledge so that volleyball will pave the way towards a lifelong career after college.
