My name is Maegan Plunk and volleyball is my passion. I know that almost every single volleyball player will tell you that, whether it's true or not. In my case, it truly is. I've been playing this incredible sport since I was in the 3rd grade. It was the first sport I ever played and I honestly fell in love with it. Soon enough, it was all I cared about, all I thought about. That statement still stands true to this day. I would never take back the decision to play volleyball because it made me into the person I am today, and I love the person I am.
I'm the player that will do anything you ask of me. I'm a fighter. If you ask me to run down a ball that you throw to the opposite side of the gym, you better believe that I'm going to do everything in my power to pass that ball. If you ask me, as a 5' 2 & 3/4" libero/defensive specialist, to play opposite hitter, I will do my best, jump my highest, and swing my hardest every single time. I'm going to give you 110% every single time. I'm just as proactive about my grades as I am about volleyball. School is a big factor in my life as well. I'm in the top 16% of my class with a GPA of 3.6 out of 5.0. I don't know how to not work hard. It's not in me to be lazy and just give half effort, it never has been.
Several of my coaches have told me that I'm a coachable athlete and that my selflessness on and off the court are incredible qualities to have when trying out for teams in the future. I like to build off of those aspects of my game when bettering my game. I'm good at taking direction/suggestion. Whether I'm in a private, a practice, a clinic, or a game, if a coach tells me to try something different or change something, I'm going to do my best to focus on getting it right. I won't stop until I have fixed whatever it happens to be. As for my selflessness, I've been on teams where I've played nearly every position, front and backrow. My past and current coaches found out that although my main position is libero/defesive specialist, that I would play my heart out wherever they placed me to play. I had to play middle front in a high school spring league tournament and I went all out on every block and hit. The other team laughed at me until I actually got a block on them. I work hard everytime, no matter what.
One of my club coaches once gave my team a sheet of paper with a quote from Mark Twain that said, "It's not the size of dog in the fight- It's the size of fight in the dog." She then asked us how the quote applied to volleyball and our lives. I wrote, "It applies to me because I learned at a young age that if you make an error on the court, you just have to let it go. You have to work hard to achieve your goals. You can play the tallest team in the world against the shortest but the winner isn't decided by their heights. It's decided simply by who wants it more and who is willing to hustle harder. You have to play your heart out and always move forward, past your mistakes and loses. As Kevin Durant said, "Hard work beats talent when talent Doesn't work hard." This statement is my philosophy. What I wrote is what I thoroughly believe. As my mom likes to remind me, "Any team can beat any team on any given day."
This sport is my life. It is what I want to do with my life. I want to grow up and help other little girls who were just like me fall in love with this sport. I want to teach passing, setting, hitting, defense, offense, blocking, diving, serving, reading the hit, passing angles, and so much more. My next step in that goal is to play volleyball at a collegiate level. I'm willing to give everything in me to achieve this. Playing collegiately is something that has always been a goal and dream that I've strived for. I just hope and pray that I get the chance to do so.
Thank you so much for visiting my profile. I hope you have a wonderful day!
