Personal Statement

My name is Kaja Burja. This season I`m playing at 17 PREMIER in club ALAMO - the best volleyball club in San Antonio. I also play on Varsity team for Ronald Reagan High School. I played MIDDLE and RIGHT SIDE HITTER in Varsity this year, but can play all positions in the front. We were very successful this season and finished 3rd in the State.

Almost five years ago I moved with my family to US from small European country Slovenia. I became involved in different sports from my early childhood - from skiing, swimming to skating, rollerskating and also dancing.  I started  to play volleyball in 5th grade but then switched  more to tennis for 4 years and even won 2nd place (regional) for middle school in doubles with my identical twin sister Nika. After that we both decided to focus 100% solely on club and high school volleyball and now we play on Varsity team as well as in the same club team. Together we`re very competitive but also encourage and support each other in the game.

I've learned a lot from volleyball that I have applied to my life but the most important thing is to never give up and to play with your heart. I love playing volleyball because it`s a team sport and I have a lot of fun with it.

While my passion is volleyball, I also love playing tennis, skiing, and swimming. In addition I love to spend time with my family and attend entertainment shows, concerts, plays or game events. I also love fashion, design and law.

My goal is to be very successful in school and in sports to be able to play and study among the best at one of the top colleges in the nation.  I want to have lots of fun representing my school to the best of my ability, have a positive impact on my fellow teammates, and be part of successful team. I'm very competitive in sports, I learn fast and give 110% at everything I do.

I believe volleyball should be played out of love, where you can have fun, but at the same time it is also a sport where you need to learn to work hard and bring all you got. Volleyball is where you meet your second family and learn how to play for others not just for yourself. When I play volleyball I am relaxed and it gets my mind off of any problems that I might have at that time.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
