Maria Garza '17 Recruiting Profile

         My name is Maria Garza, and I am a 6'0 middle hitter from Uvalde, Texas.  I have played volleyball for 6 years, and I enjoy every second that I am on the court. I am a well rounded athlete; I play softball, basketball,  and volleyball. Volleyball has become my priority, when I step on the the court  my self-esteem and my confidence level goes up. I do not just practice to get better but to make my team stronger. My passion, discipline, hard-working ethics, and being coachable makes me a good asset for your team. For the past 3 years I have received awards and recognitions such as The All-Academic district award all 3 years, and 2nd Team All-district my sophmore year and 1st Team All-District my junior year. I feel that these are stepping stones to reaching one of my goals which is playing college ball.  I have worked hard for and will continue to do so.  

         I am looking for a mix of high quality volleyball and academics. I am an AP and Honors student who is ranked number 4 in a class of 338 students with a 4.0 GPA. I enjoy playing volleyball and know that playing college ball will be very challenging but  that is a challenge I have prepared myself to take on.  In the longrun my education is priority and a challenging Health Professions and/or nursing program is a must. I feel that what makes me different from other recruits is my positive attitude and my drive to succeed in any situation that I come across. Being blessed with my height of 6'0 is a plus. I know I will need help on the way and I have never been hesitant to ask for help and advice from others because my belief is that there is always room for improvement.
