Personal Statement
My volleyball career all started when I participated in my first volleyball camp at age 8. I didn't have a great understanding of what was going on but I knew that I loved the game. At age 10 I started playing competitively on a club team and I began to see improvements. I am a part of a very talented volleyball family. My aunt is a high school coach and has won 5 Utah state championships. My uncle is a former college coach (Dixie State College). Both of my cousins play as well, my older cousin plays for Brigham Young University, and my younger cousin plays with me on our high school team. Being involved with such a great, goal oriented family, has always pushed me to want to be better and to get after it in the gym.
I have been a varsity starter all three years of high school. However, my first two years I played in Arizona at Sandra Day O'Connor High School. At the end of my sophomore year I made the sacrifice to move away from my family and live with my aunt and cousin in St. George, Utah to play volleyball. This experience has made me a more well rounded individual and player. This change has pushed me mentally. My new team has pushed me physically to be the absolute best player I could be and are continuing to help me recognize my full potential.
Now, as college is in my near future, I am beginning to recognize that I want to take my volleyball to the next level. Not only would I like to have a way to receive a good education and, potentially, get my school paid for but I desire to test my skills. I have such a love for the game, and I would feel lost in a way if I did not continue playing the sport I love. I have been a setter the majority of my "career" and I feel that with every day of training, I am gaining more and more knowledge of the game as well as skill. My defense is consistent and given the opportunity I would play anywhere I was needed, or do a job that would benefit my team. I, as a player and a person, strive to push myself to be better every day, whether that be with school, physical fitness, or just to be a better person. Academically I strive to push the envelope as well. I am currently taking AP/ Honors classes and have 3.5 GPA.
I am ready to start the next chapter of my life on the right foot. Given the opportunity I feel I could contribute some positive light to a team. I would jump at any opportunity to compete and get better, as well as, to be a part of a family that shares the same love for the game that I have.
