I started playing volleyball at the age of 11 for a YMCA rec team just to try it out. I found I really liked the sport, particularly the team aspect of it. I tried out for my high school's JV team the summer after my 7th grade year and made the team, becoming a starter for the next two years. I started as a back row player and setter, and was a captain my freshman year. At the end of my freshman season, I was selected to play on Varsity during the Conference Playoffs. I played on Varsity my sophomore year and was the only starting sophomore, I started as a right side hitter, and my team became the 2013 Conference Champs. I started again this year as a junior as a setter and right side hitter, I was also one of three captains this year as well as floor captain. Our team finished the season as 2014 Conference Runner Ups.
In addition, I began playing club volleyball during the off-season with Mid Atlantic Volleyball Club (now 2 Rivers Volleyball Academy). I am now currently playing with Volleyball Elite East Richmond (VEER), I have been a captain both years I have been on this team.
I work hard in school and have achieved Honor Roll every year. I was inducted into National Honor Society, which requires a 3.6 GPA or higher. I was also inducted into Mu Alpha Theta (Math National Honor Society), which requires Math grades no lower than a C. I also became a Junior Marshall this year which includes about 30 students from my class.
I enjoy volunteering and community service, and will be tutoring students at O. B. Gates Elementary School. With National Honor Society I volunteer at Ecoff Elementary School on Mondays and Wednesdays, assisting a fifth grade teacher and working with her students. On my own, I have volunteered and continue to do so at a local alternative high school, assisting them in starting their own girls' volleyball team for the first time.? I am hoping to introduce the sport to others, since it has given me such joy and fulfillment.
This year I was selected to be on the Superintendent Advisory Council to represent my high school, Lloyd. C. Bird. For this honor, only two students from the school are selected by teachers and principals to represent the school. I meet monthly with representatives from other county schools and the superintendent to share ideas that we think would be helpful to our county.
I am a driven and focused person, striving to do my best on and off the court. I pride myself on my work ethic as well as my coachability.
