I aspire to play volleyball in college at a level that is a good fit for me on a team that challenges me, develops my skills, and builds lasting relationships . I am determined to pursue academics and a career path in the field of graphic design and marketing. What makes me a good candidate for your team is my reputation for being a positive ball of energy, aka the “sparkplug” of the team. I am a strong communicator on and off the court and I am full of team spirit. I’m a cooperative teammate and a quick learner. I excel under pressure and have played my best games either at championship matches, club team finals, or against our biggest rivals. Thanks to the skills I have developed from my nine years of martial arts experience, Taekwondo has taught me discipline, focus, and how to stay calm under pressure. I’ve had the opportunity to be a high school varsity volleyball team player since my freshman year. All three years my team made it to the state finals. I have been chosen for a U17 & U18 club travel team competing in NERVA tournaments across New England and coached by division II, St. Michael’s College volleyball athletes. I was nominated to VT Allstates in 2016 and received honorable mention in 2015.
What differentiates me from other recruits is my perseverance. In a match, no matter what the situation, my indomitable spirit will continue to work 150%. I have learned and experienced in volleyball that a great team can come back from any point deficit and anything is possible. I lift teammates up when they become discouraged. I am a lightning fast learner. Show me a drill, technique, or strategy once and I’ll catch on. I use relaxation techniques such as “shake it off” or “do a little dance”, leaving me happy and relaxed. Academically I have separated from the traditional curriculum this junior year. In addition to some core classes at Essex H.S., I attend “Center of Technology Essex” where I study Digital and Creative Media; (graphic design and photography). I am excelling in this program and I love school. This educational opportunity has been a prelude to what I can expect in college. This program is hands-on and offers job shadows, internships, and college credits. Unlike most of my peers, I have a rather clear direction on what path I would like to take academically and athletically and I am very excited for it all to begin.
