Hello,
My name is Simone Alexandria Newell. I live in Stafford, VA where I’m in my Senior year at Colonial Forge High School. I’ve been involved in sports since the age of seven, when I started running the 50, 100, and 200-meter events in track. Third through eighth grades I played soccer. But it was also in sixth grade when I started playing and fell in love with Volleyball. Volleyball allows me to use the tools and skills I learned and developed in track and soccer and put it all together on the court. Even though I believe I was a born athlete, I have become a student of the game. I use every practice, conditioning session, game, and tournament as an opportunity to become better athletically, but I also understand it’s equally important to develop the mental aspect of the game as well.
Both my parents are active duty service members whom taught me the value of hard work and discipline. These values allow me to excel in academics as well as athletics. Being a well-rounded student athlete is very important to me. As a freshman, I received my varsity letter in track, was captain of the freshman volleyball team, and a member of the 15 U Stealth Elite volleyball club. In my second year at Forge, I made the varsity and 16 U Stealth National club teams, while maintaining a 3.4 GPA. Our club team finished the season with a 40-9 overall record and finished 1st place in Flight at last year’s USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships.
This year my club team (Core Volleyball VA), which I'm the floor captain, is off to a great start placing 2nd in Gold (7-1) at Richmond Virginia's Monument City Classic, in the 17 Open Division. I understand it’s going to take hard work, dedication, and determination to achieve my academic and athletic goals. I understand at 5’7 the odds are against me as an outside hitter in volleyball. You can measure the size of my height but not the size of my heart! I know that given the opportunity I would make an outstanding student athlete at the collegiate level, and will be a tremendous asset to any college or university willing to take a chance on someone with a huge amount of heart!
Sincerely,
Simone A. Newell
