Personal Statement
My name is Autumn Johnson and I am a senior at North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo Washington and volleyball has been my main priority, next to school of course, since the eighth grade. Since my sophomore year I have played varsity volleyball where my team and I broke multiple school records; we placed second in Districts and went on to place fifth in the 2a State tournament where I set in a six-two rotation. The following year we won Districts and placed second in State. My senior year I set in a 5-1 rotation and we again placed second in Districts which carried us on to state. I hold my school’s highest serving percentage of 98.7 percent and broke the school record with 824 assists. This school year I served a total of 39 aces and had a hitting percentage of 92 percent.
My favorite part about volleyball is sacrificing some skin to get a ball up, don’t get me wrong, being a setter and a d.s I know that perfect passes are optimal but sometimes the only option is a pancake or a one-armed hook while chasing down a shanked ball. These saves create the hustle in volleyball and always get my team fired up. As a setter I was given multiple chances to chase balls down which eventually lead to my realization that I love playing defense. Rather than setting like I’ve always done, last year I decided to focus on defense where I played as a defensive specialist for Washington Elite. I am currently still a d.s for Washington Elite.
I am determined and I know what I want my future to hold: I want to pursue an education that will give me the opportunities to become a dietician or physician's assistant. Being able to play volleyball while studying and preparing for my future would be a dream come true.
