Hello, my name is Sage Brustad, and I’m currently a freshman (Class of 2020) attending Richland High School in Richland, WA. I have a 3.8 G.P.A in both Honors and Advanced Placement classes. I’m an Outside Hitter playing a full six rotation with experience in all positions. This past summer I was selected to the Puget Sound Region High Performance Select Age Team and competed in the Canadian National Championships in Richmond B.C. and the High Performance National Championships in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
I started playing competitive club volleyball for Olympic Premier Volleyball Club when I was nine years old. I have always played at least a year above my age group up to and including this year. With my mother being a volleyball coach and club director, I’ve had the opportunity to be around the sport since birth, and have been in or on the court whether it was for a tournament, training, practice, or as a spectator. My love and passion for volleyball started when I was about 6 years old, and my goal is a to play Division One college volleyball.
During my freshman year, I played Varsity Volleyball at Richland High School and earned my first Varsity Letter as well as my first trip to the WIAA State Championships with my team. I am now playing club volleyball for Columbia Juniors U16 Black as a six rotation outside hitter. I’m looking forward to competing with my team at the Las Vegas Classic on President’s Day and the SoCal Qualifier in Las Vegas, as my team has a goal to earn a bid to Nationals this year.
I have played many sports including seven years of competitive soccer, basketball, and swimming however, volleyball remains my ultimate passion. Playing multiple team sports has taught me both group and individual life skills including managing student/athlete responsibilities, pushing my physical and mental abilities, leadership, and most importantly, teamwork. Teamwork has been the most important part of my volleyball development and growth skills. I have learned that helping to make my teammates better at all times is a crucial skill for an athlete to have.
My goal for the future includes playing volleyball at the collegiate level where I would be able to continue my passion, dedication, and excitement for the sport of volleyball with teammates who share these same goals and passion. Especially with people who have put in so much training, hard work, and commitment into loving and playing the sport of volleyball.
