Personal Statement
Because of my deep passion for the sport of volleyball, it is my sincere desire and ultimate goal to play volleyball at the collegiate level. I have been working hard toward this goal for many years by first and foremost, making sure I do well in school which I have proudly achieved by being on the Honor Roll each semester since 6th grade. I presently have a 4.15 GPA and also earned AAU Academic All American Honors in 2016. Secondly, I have also been lucky enough to play with great teams at Milwaukee Sting since 4th grade, a volleyball club with high standards and great coaching which is helping me to become the player I strive to be. As a player I have learned many things like the value of being a good teammate, the rewards of working hard and improving myself, and a healthy spirit of competitiveness while on the volleyball court. Being a part of many successful teams has helped me gain confidence and has further fueled my desire to achieve my goals.
I think what sets me apart from other recruits is that for the last 2 years after the club season ended, I was fortunate to make the Wisconsin Badger Region High Performance Team competing at the USAV High Performance Indoor National Championships in both Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 2016, and Des Moines, Iowa in 2015. It is an accomplishment I am very proud of since only 10 girls from all over the state made the team and it was composed of athletes my age and one year older. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had and has given me so many great memories with the friends I made, and getting to represent the Badger State on the volleyball court was such an honor for me as well. For overall thoughts of my game, the Head Coach of the HP team, Paul Schlomer, (who also coaches at the collegiate level) can be reached at email: [email protected], Cell: 608-886-3566 Office: 608-663-3245. I recently completed my 2016 Fall High School season and am excited to say that my Menomonee Falls High School volleyball team made it to the Wisconsin Division 1 State Tournament finishing in 3rd place. I was fortunate to be named Honorable Mention All State, which was a great honor. For the 2017 Club season I am playing with the Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold Team and have been named Captain. Our team had a great tournament at AAU Nationals this year finishing in 3rd place in the 16 Open Division which was really fun! I am also currently on PrepVolleyball.com Class of 2019 Club Watch List as an OH, the 2016 JVA Ultra Ankle Watch List(OH) and Elite Honorable Mention on the 2016 PrepVolleyball.com Soph 79.
As a junior in high school this year(2017-18) I was honored to be 1st Team All-Conference, and also an All-State Honorable Mention selection. I also was selected to the All Tournament Team at the 2018 Sports Performance National Junior Classic Tournament in May 2018 for my Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold Team.
Some of my strengths that I feel I can bring to a college team are: my good work ethic and ability to focus and understand the task of being a good student athlete by getting good grades and working hard in the classroom and on the court, my ability to get along with others and be a supportive teammate, my competitive spirit to compete at a high level and willingness to work really hard every day to improve all aspects of my game, and also my ability to be a "coachable" player who accepts coaching suggestions and implements the necessary changes.
I am also very thankful to have a strong, loving family support system with 3 successful older siblings and parents who have instilled good values and morals in me. They have always been there as good role models and I believe they have done a great job shaping me into a person of good character who has a healthy confidence to set and accomplish my goals, both now and in the future.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me, and hopefully you will seriously consider me as a student athlete at your school in the future!
Sincerely,
Ashley Guenveur
