My sophomore year my team and I fell three points short of making it to the Wisconsin state volleyball tournament. My next season as a junior, a bitter taste still lingered after the loss. However, this one defeat would not slow us down. I would say it actually propelled us forward, to work harder and to believe in our ability as a team. We worked all season long with one goal in mind: the gold ball. At the end of the season we were holding that gold ball that seemed so far away before. This whole experience taught me the meaning of “you get what you put into it” and hard work. More importantly it helped me grow as a person and to stay humble and thankful through the glory. Playing on the biggest stage in Wisconsin taught me how to play in any condition and trained my brain to focus on the game no matter where, who, or how I am playing.
I began playing volleyball in seventh grade, and ever since then I was hooked. I love everything about volleyball. My favorite part is the team aspect because one person can’t win a game. Through volleyball I’ve learned that I am a strong, level headed person with good character. Even with many challenges with coaches and players I’ve managed to keep a good attitude. A coach once told me that golf balls were once made perfectly rounded, but after it was hit, beaten, and dented multiple times it actually flew straighter and longer. I am a golf ball because no matter how many times I’ve been screamed at or benched, those “dents” shape me to be a better person and player.
Academically I am a great student and manage to balance school work with my sport commitments. I am planning to major in education but have not decided what age yet. I hope to graduate high school with my Spanish minor completed along with other college credits fulfilled. I believe that my well roundedness as a person, student, and player make me an excellent selection to play on a college team that wants to compete as much as I do.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about me!
