Personal Statement
~~I have been surrounded by volleyball my entire life. I have three older sisters that all played competitive volleyball, one currently playing in college. During my child years, my sisters would always engage me in their volleyball games. I immediately fell in love with the sport. I started playing competitive volleyball at the age of 10. My sister had been currently playing for a club named Milwaukee Sting, so my parents had me try out there. I have been playing for their club ever since. Throughout my years of playing volleyball, I played for a few teams that I would never forget. My 8th grade St. Mary’s team, for example, won the South Eastern Catholic grade school SETON volleyball tournament. I was one of the two captains on this team. Later, I played on JV as a freshman at MFHS and won MVP. At the end of this season, I was moved up to be a member on the varsity team that was the Division 1 State Champions. Volleyball is team sport. Everyone plays a role, and you win and lose as a team. You stick together, almost like a family. I always loved this about volleyball. I am a setter, but have always been an all around kind of player, including some hitting and even defense. Setter being my main position, though, I feel they play an important role on the court, as do the rest of the positions. A setter touches every ball and controls the offense on the court. They have to be loud, tell the hitters where to go, and most importantly, be a leader. I feel like this position fits me well because I have always been a talker. I am loud on the court. I call out hits, free balls, just about everything. I am fast to a ball and am smart with where I set it. I also always give 110% effort on and off the court. I have always found time in my days to workout and get myself better. During the seasons, I love getting feedback from my coaches. I think this makes me an easier player to coach, also. I would not only be a good candidate for playing volleyball, but for academics as well. I have learned how to balance my time between playing sports and maintaining my academics at a high level. I play volleyball and basketball, which have overlapping seasons, and still maintain to keep up my grades. I have been on honor roll all throughout grade school, middle school, and my past years at MFHS with a 4.2 GPA. Grades are very important to me and I plan to keep them up throughout high school and college. Overall, it always been my dream to play in college and to get a cut down on my college tuition for playing the sport I love would be the greatest opportunity anyone could give me.
