I picked up my first water polo ball my 6th grade summer. At that moment I just knew I was going to love the sport! Five years of hard work and commitment, it is my passion. The physical nature of it, the thrill of the game and the ability to work with others to accomplish a goal, is what draws me to it. It has also taught me how to win and lose with grace, and to learn from those victories and losses too.
In the pool, I’m a coachable player; always open to direction for improvement. My coaches call me a strong leader and a strong offensive and defensive player-something I take great pride in. Being a team player is extremely important to me, because every team member has different strengths and weaknesses. Through helping and encouraging each other a team can make great things happen! I also currently coach a ‘14 and under’ team. Coaching these girls is great, because I’ve been where they are in skill and excitement. I love motivating them to do their best not only in the pool but also in life, and they really try!
I am proud of my academics, having a 4.1 GPA to date in high school. I’m reaching for Valedictorian in my graduating class of 2017, and with hard work I know it’s possible. As this year’s Class President, I learned the importance of connecting with and being a positive role model for our school’s greater student body, which is diverse. ASB has its own deadlines and demands, which have taught me how to work under pressure and how to keep a balance between school, sports and family. When I graduate from high school my interest in ocean environmental research and conservation may point me toward those majors for college; but I plan to consider all science and technology department majors at colleges or universities that will be a good match for me in both academics and athletics. It is my hope to continue playing the sport I love at a higher level of competition in college. Thank you for the chance to tell you about myself, and I hope you’ll find me a good match for your program!
Sincerely,
Allison Negus
