Personal Statement

I was born and raised in New Zealand and moved to the United States with my parents in 2013, at age 13.  In New Zealand, I competed in swimming and water polo for a number of years.

I started competitive swimming at the age of 7 years old.  In New Zealand, swimming is a club sport so it goes all year.  I am used to the heavy training that swimming requires.

My first time playing water polo was in elementary school for our school team.  We played Flippa Ball, a version of water polo played in a pool 3 feet deep so we could stand or swim.  My swimming gave me an advantage over many of the other kids.

In middle school, I swam and played water polo on our school teams.  The water polo team was a mixed boys and girls team.  in my 7th grade year, our water polo team won most of the tournaments it played in including the NZ Intermediate Schools Tournament and the North Island Champs.  I continued to swim during my middle school years making age group times and qualifying for the NZ national swim meets.

In 2013, my family moved to America.  My father is American and my mother is a Kiwi.   I have dual citizenship.

I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan and attend Ann Arbor Pioneer High School.  I am a junior this year.    This is my third year on the varsity team for swimming and water polo at Pioneer.

2015 was a good year as I made All State in two different sports, swimming and water polo.  Our water polo team finished runner up in the state last spring in my Sophomore year.

2016 was an even better year.  Our water polo team went on to make the state final and this year we won it.  I was named co-Player of the Year in Michigan, then was selected as a NISCA All American (4th team) in water polo.  It was a great year.

I plan to continue swimming and playing water polo in my senior year (2016-17).  I would like to continue playing water polo in college, here in America.
