Personal Statement
My name is Candice Vorbeck, from St. Louis, Missouri. I've participated in the Olympic Development Program for three years now for the Midwest Zone. In my high school career I have started on varsity for all three years so far as well as be nominated for Female Player of the Year my freshman year, and winning the award my sophomore year. My entire life I have swam, but when I was introduced to Water Polo I immediately loved it. I started playing in fifth grade and even up until now I'm generally the only girl on any of the teams that I play for. Being the only female on a team has had its difficulties; however my love of the sport has kept me playing. I want to be able to continue my career as a water polo player throughout college and I am prepared to devote time to the sport. I have competed in international tournaments, the Olympic Development Program, and in the club league here in St. Louis. In the future I want to be on a team that will help me grow and improve as a player and as a teammate. I've overcome many setbacks because of how underdeveloped the sport is, especially for women, in St. Louis. There are times when I can’t play in tournaments with my team because there are times when they would have to forfeit if I were to play. I act as a leader on both my club team, and my high school team because of how much longer I have been playing in comparison to many of my teammates, and I believe that that will help me transition to the higher level of play I wish to achieve.
