Personal Statement
Since my seventh grade year, I have been striving to constantly improve my technique, endurance, and mental toughness in order to consistently wrestle at the higher levels of wrestling. As an athlete and a student, I understand that there is always more to learn and different ways to accomplish a goal and i approach nearly every challenge with a positive attitude as I feel that negativity hinders not only my own progression, but the teams as well. Beginning my sixth grade year, I was the captain of my youth league wrestling team, captain of my middle school team, and as a freshman to now, the captain of two different high school wrestling teams. I have found an appropriate position between a coach and teammate as a captain and feel that I am able to motivate, push, contribute, teach, and bring a team together in a family-like atmosphere. I understand that just showing up to the practice room is not enough to excel as an athlete. I feel I manage my time efficiently by getting my homework and class assignments done and still finding time to go to the nearest weight room, track and field, or wrestling room and push my limits. Many football players, baseball players, runners, and even wrestlers who I've trained with call me crazy and I get a strange pleasure from hearing that. I firmly believe that satisfaction is the enemy of success and I'm always striving to improve in the classroom and on the mat. What seperates me from other recruits may not be my strength or technique but a wrestler who's willing and able to work harder than most, lead and motivate a team for a cause greater than myself, compete in the classroom, and live the lifestyle of a wrestler without a complaint.
