Personal Statement

It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see that light!" ~ Aristotle Onassis

As a wrestler and football player, pushing myself to the limits is something I constantly do, whether in the classroom, the wrestling room, the field, or the weight room. My personality? Undefinable. Nobody understands me and how hard I try to be successful in everything I do. Competing is my life. As most people call me a "try hard," but I look at that as a compliment, and try even harder. The only adversity is within ourselves, and that is what I believe. The more one overcomes that internal adversity, more success that will follow. As a Junior in high school, I know I can say one thing, I didn't rest a second, knowing the grind will help me embrace my life and further my future opportunities. My goal as a high school wrestler this following year? Going to the state tournament and leaving a champion, but isn't that everyone's goal eventually? Yes, and that's why I understand overcoming my adversity by being a part of the DC Elite, wrestling at intensive camps, and individually practicing with my coach will increase my knowledge about the sport. My goals for the far future are as follows, maintaining my 1st Honors grades, and constantly competing to improve my technique for my sports with my team and individually. Year round I commit myself to a strict meal plan, understanding the foods I eat affect my performance. As well as football practice or wrestling practice goes, I also still lift weights as an individual, knowing that going the extra mile and overcoming these obstacles will help me surpass my opponents.

My ultimate goal is to wrestle Division 1, even if that's a distant goal, I know that it is the small improvements that make the biggest differences. This past year was rough, I've had setbacks and have been pushed to my limits through an injury. I had to cut last season short due to a surgery last year, but I redeemed myself through hard offseason work resulting in many practices and 50 offseason matches. In conclusion, as a junior student athlete, I have accomplished some important things throughout my high school career, such as consistently achieving 1st Honors, and becoming captain of my wrestling team the Falcons (in West Burlington, IA), As I transition into college and beyond, I hope to eventually join the military and pursue a job in medicine.
