Nathan Dettmer '18 Recruiting Profile

The highlight of my Freshman year has been getting the chance to wrestle on the varsity team. I had to step up a lot and be a leader of the small team of 14 that we had. The only downfall was half way through the year I suffered a back injury that limited my mat time. I ended up wrestling most of the year, but sitting out at Sectionals and Districts due to severity of the injury. I grew a ton as an athlete due to this injury, I realized I can't take this Varsity spot for granted. That I have to work for what I get. Also, that I have to have commitment to overcoming this injury. I learned a lot while sitting out, I was able to focus more on the technique side of things. Going through moves step by step. These skills I have learned will play a big part in continuing my career as a wrestler. 
I am looking for a program that will be a good fit not only athletically but also academically. I value the educational aspect of being a student-athlete just as much as the athletic experiences that I hope to take part in. I believe that I not only have the work ethic, but the leadership skills to make an impact in any wrestling program. As a Freshman stepping up and playing a big role on a team, I'm starting to get an idea on what it takes to be a leader of a successful team.
