Personal Statement

I will be a 2015 graduate from Minnesota. I have been wrestling since preschool, this being my 12th year in the sport. I have been on our varsity team since I was in 7th grade. In the 2009-2010 and the 2010-2011 seasons, I was awarded all-conference honorable mention. In the 2011-2012 season, I was an all-conference wrestler as well as a state entrant. I also play varsity football and baseball. In the spring of 2012, my freshman year, I played a little varsity baseball at catcher after our 9th grade season was completed. In the fall of 2012, my sophomore year, I played on the varsity football team. I hope to continue to improve my skills and talents at a collegiate level on the mat, as well as in the classroom. I currently have a 3.983 GPA and I am in honors English, honors chemistry, and advanced geometry 2, which is honors math.

I entered the MN State Tournament as an individual as well as apart of our team. As a team we placed fifth. I entered the State Tournament as a section champion at 160 lbs and had post-season/state tournament record of 7-1.

Our team took 2nd out of 8 teams. I won all four of my matches. Three out of the four wrestlers I wrestled were ranked in The Guillotine rankings. One was ranked 4th, one was ranked 5th, and the third was ranked 10th. I was given the most outstanding wrestler of the tournament award voted on by the coaches.

I took first at 160 pounds. In the finals, I beat the wrestler ranked 5th in the state of Minnesota at 160 pounds.

Training

I have been wrestling for 12 years, starting when I was in preschool.
10 years
During my youth, I was trained for 3 years by University of Minnesota wrestlers and alumni. When I was going into 8th grade, I went to a granby camp in Missouri for a week during the summer. Also, the summer before my sophomore year, our school had Sunday open-mat sessions which I attended. A University of Minnesota wrestler would come and coach us for the session.

In my freshman year, I was awarded the Iron Boy Champion which is a class just for the freshman. It is a competition consisting of the bench press, power clean, parallel squat, vertical jump, and 40 yard dash. In my sophomore year, I received the Iron Man
